NBA Rumors: According to NBA speculations, forward Rui Hachimura may be interested in being extended by the LA Lakers. Before to the trade deadline, the Lakers acquired the Japanese player from the Washington Wizards in exchange for Kendrick Nunn and three second-round selections.
The team has benefited greatly from Hachimura’s acquisition. The Lakers were seeking to upgrade their squad, and he provides those things with his size, shooting, and length. Hachimura’s rookie contract is about to expire.
After they make a qualifying offer of $8.4 million, the Lakers will have the option to re-sign him or match an offer sheet if he becomes a restricted free agency.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the LA Lakers intend to make him an offer of a two- or three-year contract for $10 million yearly. Buha wrote the following (through Lakers All Day Everyday):
“I believe the Lakers will make an effort to keep him around. Something in the neighbourhood of 2/20 or 3/30, I believe. They might be willing to go if he’s looking for more, too. They wanted to keep him because they valued him highly enough to exchange those three 2RP.”
Power forward Rui Hachimura began his career as a starter with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Hachimura transitioned to a bench position after the Lakers acquired D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Malik Beasley at the trade deadline.
Hachimura has averaged 10.1 points and 4.5 rebounds while playing 23.5 minutes per game over 23 games while shooting an effective 48.1%, including a respectable 35.8% from 3-point range.
In his small role, he has performed admirably. Considering that Hachimura is only 25 years old and has a developing talent, the LA Lakers may find him to be a wise investment.
Rui Hachimura should be able to sign a 10-year, $10 million contract with the LA Lakers.
This offseason, the LA Lakers will want to keep the majority of their current core together. They have the cap capacity to sign a max player, but they will likely spend in developing a deep team by using that flexibility to recruit young and efficient role players. They already have a few people on their roster. In their company is Rui Hachimura.
The 6’9″ forward has been a great addition, and there aren’t many issues with his performance. His development with the Lakers has benefited greatly from working with a player development coach like Phil Handy, and it will continue to do so.
