Since making his professional debut in 2012, the Southampton-based super-welterweight known as “The Pig” has destroyed all but one of his opponents. But his upcoming struggle will be his hardest yet.
Sam ‘The Savage’ Eggington (33-8, 19 KOs), who has established a reputation as one of Britain’s most all-action fighters, will be standing opposite him at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
As Pigford gets ready to defend his undefeated record in Bournemouth, he said, “Undoubtedly, he’s the best opponent I’ve faced, but for me that brings excitement and a spark that I haven’t had in previous fights.”
“There is far more to gain from this fight than the previous ones since I will receive much greater compensation for defeating Eggington than I did for my prior opponents. I’m eager to experience it.”
Perhaps the most effective fight-finisher now competing in British boxing is the powerful puncher Pigford. No other British boxer at his weight has a finish rate as high as the 30-year-old’s 95% of victories.
In contrast, Eggington is renowned for his straightforward fighting approach, which keeps spectators enthralled and on the edge of their seats. The British Boxing Board of Control named his split-decision victory over Bilel Jkitou in 2021 “Fight of the Year,” but Pigford isn’t too concerned about it.
“On paper, I believe this battle will be highly entertaining, but that is not my goal,” according to Pigford. “I think he was designed for me, and this is the ideal battle for me.
“I feel like I’m going to damage him and kill him eventually since I punch very hard and he doesn’t seem to mind getting struck. I have a lot of faith.”
Jacob Macmillan, a highly renowned young trainer who has been preparing Lewis Edmondson for his bout on the May 27 night, has been working with Pigford.
