The Ashes: The captain of England, Ben Stokes, is unconcerned about his bowling performance this summer during the Ashes. The five-game series versus Australia will be played in England and will begin on June 16 and finish on July 31. He had knee problems during his most recent participation in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) and England’s tour to New Zealand in February.
Only twice for the IPL 2023 winner Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the English all-rounder appeared. He is eager for the impending one-off Test against Ireland at Lord’s, though, and is certain that he can have an impact during the Ashes.
The 31-year-old claims that his knee is much healthier today than it was during the New Zealand series. Despite spending the previous 10 weeks in India for the IPL, he claimed that by doing so, he had placed himself in a position from which he could neither look back with regret nor assert that he had not given himself the greatest opportunity to play.
“Yeah, look at how much better the knee is doing than it was in Wellington. I’ve spent the last nine to ten weeks in India for the IPL, but what I’ve done is put myself in a position where I can’t look back with regret or claim that I didn’t give myself the best chance to play a full role with the ball this summer,” according to a quote from Stokes from the Belfast Telegraph.
I’ve given myself the greatest chance possible, but the mind and the body are two very different things: Stokes
The medical staff in Chennai had put in a lot of work, he said, but he added that the mind and body are two very different things.
“I have worked very hard with the Chennai medical staff, who were communicating with the ECB folks and put myself into a spot where I feel like I am back in a 2019, 2020 area with regard to my own body and fitness. I’ve given myself the greatest chance possible, but the mind and the body are two very different things. I have, however, given myself the greatest opportunity possible,” the England captain continued.
