ICC CEO: Greg Barclay, the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), and Geoff Allardice, the chief executive, will go to Pakistan on May 30 for a two-day visit. Notably, since former president Ray Mali’s visit in 2008, this would be the first time in 15 years that an ICC chairman will travel to the nation.
The two are scheduled to see PCB Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi, PCB Chief Operating Officer Barrister Salman Naseer, and other board members when they arrive in Pakistan on Tuesday morning, according to Dawn. The committee will learn about Pakistan’s decision to participate in the ODI World Cup as well as discuss the future of the Asia Cup 2023.
The PCB media statement on Sunday stated, “While Mr Allardice has routinely visited Pakistan, first as ICC General Manager – Cricket and then as ICC Chief Executive, this will be Mr Barclay’s first visit to Pakistan.”
“Mr Barclay will travel to Pakistan for the first time since ICC President Ray Mali’s trip there in 2008. The top two ICC officials will also be visiting Pakistan Cricket’s headquarters jointly for the first time since October 2004,” it was noted.
The top two ICC officials will visit Pakistan Cricket’s headquarters jointly for the first time since October 2004, according to a press statement.
Notably, India has already withdrawn from the 2019 Asia Cup, citing security concerns. The Men in Blue, though, may participate in the competition if Pakistan hosts it somewhere else. Discussions are now ongoing, with the UAE and England appearing to be the front-runners to host the event.
While this is going on, Pakistan has said they are unwilling to host any of their World Cup games in India. Even if they do, the team is not prepared to compete in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. As a result, ICC and PCB are scheduled to meet to discuss all of these issues, and a resolution is anticipated shortly.
