After eight seasons in Germany, former Spain international Javi Martinez could leave Bayern Munich this summer.
In the summer of 2021, Martinez is out of contract with Munich. So, they may decide to cash in on the player this year– the most adept in a midfield holding role, but also in the defence centre.
El Mundo Deportivo reports that a German media outlet Kicker has claimed that this year the player could move on from the leaders of the Bundesliga League.
It is said that Martinez is likely to break Joshua Kimmich’s preferred midfield duo comprising of him and Thiago Alcantara, Martinez’s fellow Spaniard. Indeed, Martinez, along with Alcantara and James Rodriguez are Bayern Munich’s star Latin midfield triangle.
Nonetheless, he may be seeking first-team football elsewhere in this stage of his career.
The 31-year-old was often injured in Bavaria, but since his €40 m switch from the Athletic Club Bilbao in 2012, he has clocked up 232 first-team appearances for Bayern.
