“I think Iniesta was one of the best in the world.” Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has said that Andres Iniesta is one of his football heroes.
Fernandes said in a Q&A session on Manchester United’s official website, “For me, it was incredible that Iniesta finished his career without the Ballon d’Or. With everything he won, it is difficult for me to understand!”
After the January signing, Fernandes was in good shape for Manchester United until the 2019/20 Premier League season was indefinitely postponed by the outbreak of COVID-19. By then, he had scored twice and provided three assists in five games.
“The one I liked to watch and follow was Iniesta, because Iniesta is a mix between a No.8 and a No.10. It is something I can do better, playing between No.8 and No.10,” he said.
Fernandes also talked about his own approach to the game and his own mindset when he walked out on the pitch. “Warrior,” Fernandes said, adding, “Because, for me, every game is a battle. You need to go out to the game and just understand you need to beat your opponent.
“With all of the respect, because you need to have respect for your opponent, but you need to beat them. If you don’t beat them, they will beat you. It doesn’t matter who is on the other team. If it is a friend, because I have friends playing in the Premier League, I don’t care. At that moment I will be their biggest enemy.”
