BVB captain Marco Reus has made himself heard for the first time since the dramatic season finale of the Bundesliga. The Borussia Dortmund club icon angered the supporters by walking past them, but has now given an explanation for this.
Club icon Reus explains the ignoring of Dortmund supporters
When the ninety minutes were over in the Signal Iduna Park, it became clear that not Dortmund, but Bayern Munich had become champions. Edin Terzic’s men had it in their own hands, but played a draw against Mainz at home. Afterwards, the Dortmund players came together to deal with the difficult moment with the Südtribune, but Reus was conspicuous by his absence.
The next day, Reus raised eyebrows again, when he silently drove past some BVB fans after the last training session, Kicker wrote. He said via Instagram that he had not yet processed the situation enough. “Your reaction after the game completely overwhelmed me emotionally. I was speechless and totally lost. I know you called me, but I was too broken to come into your arms,” Reus admits.
“It is currently difficult to put into words my thoughts, feelings and emotions. Thanks for the positive comments after the game. That made it clear once again what is worth fighting for,” he added.
Dortmund had the perfect chance to become national champions for the first time since 2011/12, but Bayern’s hegemony remained unbroken. He admits, “Yes, that hurts. We haven’t been this close in a long time. But anyone who knows me, this club and you BVB fans knows that we will get back up, keep working and fighting – just like this great club has always done.”
Kimmich criticises club management Bayern over remarkable timing
Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic were fired from Bayern Munich on Saturday, a message made public less than an hour after the side miraculously won its eleventh consecutive title. It caused mixed feelings at the championship celebration.
It has become a tradition on Munich’s Marienplatz: the bowl has been on display there every year since 2013, which is cause for great celebration. On Sunday it was something else, as helmsman Joshua Kimmich also put into words. Not only the poor game of the past few months, but also the dismissal of two club icons had a negative effect on Kimmich.
“I didn’t know, and it’s really a surprise when something like this happens on the day you become champion. Whatever you think of it, the confirmation could have waited another two or three days. It’s not about whether the decision is right or wrong, I have no opinion on that. But it is strange if you become champion after such a final day and then receive such a message. Then your emotions go in all directions, “says Kimmich at Sport1.
