Despite ongoing concern regarding the continent’s football owing to coronavirus, the Confederation of African Football is already prioritizing a January launch for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, reports.
“The Africa Cup of Nations is still scheduled for Cameroon from 10 January to 8 February 2021.” Samson Adamu, director of competitions at CAF, said.
CAF itself has yet to confirm a restart date for any of its own pandemic-hit tournaments. Four of the six qualification rounds for the Nations Cup also have to be conducted.
With Cameroon being Africa’s sixth worst-affected country with almost 10,000 reported cases, these dates are meant to be flexible:
“This is subject to modification because the Cup of Nations is still being assessed, and the Executive Committee will make the final decision soon.”
