Jerry Richardson sold the Carolina Panthers in 2018 due to public outcry arising from multiple allegations of racist behavior as well as sexual harassment at the workplace. He sold it to current owner David Tepper.
The transfer involved one stipulation – the statue of Richardson outside Bank of America stadium should remain there as it is. However in recent times, with protests for Black Lives Matter as well as George Floyd, there has been some clamor to remove that statue.
It was earlier reported that the statue was finally being taken down and removed for good. However Carolina Panthers have cleared the air through their official Twitter page.
They tweeted, “We were aware of the most recent conversation surrounding the Jerry Richardson statue and are concerned there may be attempts to take it down. We are moving the statue in the interest of public safety.”
No matter what your beliefs are with regards to social justice, you will definitely agree that it was one of the best and most carefully worded tweets ever.
