Teenager Billy Gilmour was chosen by Frank Lampard to replace N’Golo Kante at Selhurst Park, with Jorginho on the bench.
After the season resumed last month, Jorginho hasn’t played for the Blues and has been linked to a return to Italy.
Then, on the eve of the clash at Selhurst Park, it was thought that the injured N’Golo Kante would also need to be replaced. In this scenario, Frank Lampard praised the midfielder’s professionalism, and the put former Napoli man in his starting line-up.
In Chelsea’s starting line-up for the Premier League derby at Crystal Palace Tuesday, Billy Gilmour was preferred to the out-of-favour Jorginho.
Gilmour got the nod to start in the only shift after Watford’s 3-0 loss on Saturday to the Eagles.
This replacement paid off, too, because Chelsea managed to win the bout.
With a victory over their London rivals, Chelsea will climb into third place, but probably only momentarily as Leicester City travels to Arsenal for a kick-off later on.
