One of the best goaltenders in Europe, Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma wants to stay in Milan because he dropped out at his youth school.
The 21-year-old wants to extend his contract with AC Milan but is not ready to agree to a pay cut, Italian media reported. Apparently, he has no intention of agreeing to a smaller amount.
However, Milan’s owners, American investment firm Elliott Management, want to introduce a “salary cap”. In this case, Donnarumma’s salary, an annual salary of six million euros agreed upon when he signed a contract with Milan in the summer of 2017, would not fit into their plan.
Donnarumma’s contract with Milan expires in June next year. If things go sour with Milan, many European greats such as Juventus, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, who want to see him in their ranks, may be more than willing to buy him.
