Samuel Eto’o gave an interview to Gazzetta dello Sport in which he revealed how he was persuaded to move from Barcelona to Inter, with whom he later won the triplet. Apparently, Jose Mourinho and Marco Materazzi are the ones truly responsible for bringing the player over to their side.
“Mourinho persuaded me in a very simple way. He sent me a photo of Inter’s jersey number nine and wrote: ‘It’s yours, he’s waiting for you’, and then Materazzi called me and wrote that we would win everything if I came to Inter.” said Eto’o.
He added, “I didn’t have his number on my cell phone so I asked Albertini whose it was. Nothing like that ever happened to me, it really wasn’t hard for me to make a decision.”
And of course, these simple yet clever strategies worked.
