The coronavirus pandemic is expected to cost Europe’s top-flight football clubs about 4 billion euros in lost income, reports.
“So far as we can see today, the financial effect of COVID-19 on European clubs is still a profound surprise, particularly with certain tournaments being up and running again,” European Club Association (ECA) chief executive Charlie Marshall said.
A report released by the organization that represents them states that the losses for this year will go into the billions.
Not only that, the ECA’s study has also indicated that the greatest defeats will be experienced next season, even though they are played in full:
“When the game continues the financial impact doesn’t end. But it will proceed into the next season and we need to take long-term steps to build a more competitive football industry.”
