The Everton nightmare of Jean-Philippe Gbamin has continued after the midfielder suffered a severe Achilles injury in training.
If the former Lens player has broken his Achilles tendon, he can expect a further six months out of action.
Gbamin will undergo surgery next week, and the club thus expects an “extensive rehabilitation period” to be required for the Ivory Coast international.
“Everyone at the club is devastated for JP and we will ensure he gets all the support he needs throughout this challenging time,” a club statement said. “The injury, sustained in a non-contact situation at USM Finch Farm, is unrelated to the quadriceps problem Gbamin had been working his way back from since August last year.”
The 24-year-old managed only two matches for Everton after his move of £25million from German side Mainz in August 2019 before being side-lined by the quad problem, which in February required surgery.
