One goal and one assist by Alexis Sanchez inspired Inter to a thumping 4-0 win in Ferrara over SPAL.
At the outset, Inter seemed relaxed. Gagliardini was encouraging, running on each goal, attempting to keep his head up at the crosses of Christian Eriksen.
Eventually it was Antonio Candreva who took the lead, at the end of a perfect play mix.
Alexis Sanchez got the ball in the middle, as Inter came up against three with four men and just span to flick it on an unmarked Candreva, who made no one-on-one mistakes with the goalie.
Inter seemed to be in control and pushed for more, with Sanchez heavily involved in every build-up, but it was SPAL that had the last call for a decision. After being played by Cerri, Strefezza was taken down by Samir Handanovic.
VAR had to be consulted but no penalty was given. This was because no contact was made by the goalkeeper before the SPAL man had already tried to finish.
The second half got off to a slow start and Inter looked in control.
Alexis was flicked through by Lautaro at the end of some great combinations but Letica stood in his way. A strong one-handed save from the SPAL goalkeeper stopped the Chilean’s finish down the middle.
But in the 55th minute, Cristiano Biraghi made sure Inter got a 0-2 lead. He split from the left inside and steered the ball into the bottom corner with a smooth finish from the outside.
Alexis himself would get his goal for the night only five minutes later, at the end of another good action by Biraghi. The cross was shot inside, and an orderly queue formed by the Inter players to direct it into the net.
Alexis met him with his head, and did a good job of steering him into the net and top of a great performance with an assisting goal.
Inter were thus running conveniently down the Biancazzurri.
Then, in the 74th minute, Gagliardini crowned a fantastic Inter performance in the middle by scoring the fourth goal of the night.
At the far post, Ashley Young picked up a cross and sent it across the goal, where Gagliardini met him with the side of his boot and slammed in for 0-4.
With this loss, SPAL is just one game away from Serie B relegation.
