Once the training grounds re-open around Serie A, Juventus may regret allowing their stars to remain abroad for as long as Cristiano Ronaldo, for example, who needs to observe self-isolation for at least 14 days.
Ronaldo returned to Turin last night with a private jet, having been in Madeira since the lockdown began in early March according to Football Italia. As he had just returned from Portugal, he had to stay in his Turin house for 14 days in quarantine with his father.
Gonzalo Higuain is still in Argentina, and it is not known when, or even if, he wants to return to Italy. The strangest case however is that of De Ligt, who went to visit his family in the Netherlands just days before the lockdown on training in Italy was lifted.
Its not just these three- Juventus’ slackness in forcing players to not be mobile allowed many to travel freely. Until last weekend, 10 Juve players stayed abroad: Cristiano Ronaldo, Higuain, Sami Khedira, Alex Sandro, Danilo, Douglas Costa, Wojciech Szczesny, Blaise Matuidi, Adrien Rabiot and Matthijs de Ligt.
The delays in these players returning from overseas could prove costly to Juventus, as the other clubs either forbade them from leaving the country or ensured that they returned in good time to complete the quarantine period.
Meanwhile, the doors of the Continassa training ground opened yesterday and today, with players arriving in their cars wearing protective masks. They will be checked first, with both swabs and blood samples, and then given the opportunity to practice with social distance guarantees.
