Liverpool player Virgil van Dijk is the greatest Premier League centre-back ever, at least according to former Manchester City star Vincent Kompany.
City’s Kompany, now player-manager of Anderlecht, considers Van Dijk to be the greatest center-back in the history of Premier League. Van Dijk, 28, starred in January 2018 for a reported £ 75 million ($93 million) since moving from Southampton to Liverpool.
“I’d put Virgil van Dijk back.” Kompany told SPORF. “It’s a weird one, because he’s not been on the ground for as long as we’ve listed these names – John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, these people have been there for a long , long time.
“But the signs he’d shown in his last few years just make it so obvious that if he’d been at the top, top level before that he’d already be further away. The Liverpool before Van Dijk and the one after him, it’s a completely different setup and that’s why I’ll give him that.”
