“If the boss manages the youngsters, it is nice to see. It lets you feel like there really is a chance.”
Manchester City youngster Joel Latibeaudiere says young football prospects should follow the example of Phil Foden and try to grow under Pep Guardiola’s support.
When the transfer window opens, City is reported to be on the hunt for a defensive, but Latibeaudiere will be hoping to prove his worth like Foden:
“I remember playing for Leeds and I was playing at the Under-10/11 stage against Phil and he was really one of Man City’s best players.”
Latibeaudiere told TalkSPORT, “We all know that growing up with him via City he’s always been different. I think it would be amazing how quickly he adapts and takes off as he begins to get more regular minutes, because his ability is unbelievable.”
The 20-year-old defender has been at the club since the age of 13, and spent the 2019-20 season on loan with Twente in the Netherlands until the Eredivisie season was suddenly cut short owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Actually we’re a strong squad while I’m at City and we feel we can play our way most of the time. It was interesting for specific competition to know how to play differently. I have a taste of it already; it gives me the inspiration to believe that I can achieve it myself. Now I should just keep driving myself trying to get there,” he said.
Latibeaudiere played for Twente only five times during his loan time, but nevertheless his first experience of first-team football was a useful one.
