Liverpool has told representatives of Timo Werner that they require some time to determine whether to make a foreign formal bid to Germany while they wait to see what effect coronavirus would make on the next transfer window.
Following four years at RB Leipzig, Werner is willing to leave this summer and Liverpool is in proper place to sign the 24-year-old, having made known their belief in him a few months earlier.
Werner is interested on a potential experience abroad and told Bayern Munich that transferring to another Bundesliga team is not possible. There are also many other clubs that are involved in Werner depending on how their transfer business is progressing.
Werner’s first option will probably be Liverpool but certain Premier League clubs as well as Inter and Juventus in Italy will also be listed. Barcelona is also an option if they are not signing Lautaro Martínez from Inter.
Moreover, Klopp is a massive admirer of Werner, who has scored 72 goals in 118 League appearances for Leipzig. The striker was expected to be the biggest priority for Liverpool this summer if they would like to invest in a team that’s 25 points behind Manchester City.
The escape clause in the striker’s deal which stands at €60 million is still relevant, according to The Guardian. Liverpool is willing to get a better understanding of what will lead during the transfer market this summer before closing some transaction over the next few weeks.
The coronavirus pandemic is sure to disrupt the demand this summer, even for big teams. Understandably then, Liverpool isn’t willing to commit to investing €60 m on one man.
