Newcastle United reportedly made contact with Napoli to negotiate a possible bid for Kalidou Koulibaly during this summer’s transfer window.
The Magpies are reportedly considering a change of ownership with a Saudi group possibly purchasing Mike Ashley from the club. The Premier League side will tend to have substantial transfer funds if the deal were to go through.
According to Foot Mercato, the club is already making preparations for the next season. The report claims that Steve Bruce’s side had been in touch with Napoli over the prospect of signing Koulibaly in a £70 m contract ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Nonetheless, a new report suggested that, despite having a long-standing interest in its services, United did not see the center-back as a ‘critical priority’. Morever, Senegal International has also been linked to Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid.
