Newcastle United are searching for a high-profile boss to succeed Steve Bruce, and Mauricio Pochettino is one of those who have been linked to the role, says ESPN.
However, United must pay a substantial sum of money if they want this to happen. They are expected to pay around £12.5 m to Tottenham Hotspur if they plan to vet Pochettino this month.
The Magpies are on the brink of a Saudi-led takeover that would make them one of the richest clubs in the world if it were to pass through. Apparently, the club’s new owners are planning to hire a new coach, probably before the end of the campaign.
A separate report even suggests that Newcastle will turn to former boss Rafael Benitez if they miss Pochettino’s top target.
Argentinian coach Pochettino was sacked in November. If any team hires him within six months of his departure, this is the price they must pay.
