Olympic race walk silver medalist Maria Guadalupe Gonzalaez lost her appeal against a 4-year ban and her now will face new charges on Tuesday against falsifying evidence. The Athletics Integrity Unit last month dismissed an appeal from the athlete from the Court of Arbitration.
Gonzalez in her appeal had blamed the anabolic steroid trenbolone in 2018 on the contaminated meat in tacos. The meat got from cattle farming which uses steroids in Mexico. In her appeal, she provided false details about the meat she had ingested. Athletes can escape a ban in case they are found to have ingested the meat.
In an apology to the CAS panel, the ruling stand she “expressly accepts that she lied and presented and relied upon fabricated documents”. The veteran athlete is banned until November 2022 but this could be extended further if she is found guilty f the new charges. She is now being charged fora second violation of tampering
In spite of the charges, Lupita will keep hold of her medals won in the 20-kilometre walk at the 2016 Olympics and the 2017 world championships in London.
