Captain Yussuf Poulsen was confirmed by RB Leipzig to have sustained ligament damage in his right ankle to keep him out of action.
While being able to play against Mainz, Poulsen suffered the injury during Sunday’s 5-0 rout of Mainz’s opening 20 minutes.
“In the match against Mainz 05 our forward Yussuf Poulsen suffered a ligament fracture in his right ankle,” a statement on the club’s official website read.
Despite the injury, he moved on to score one goal and set up two more.
However, on Monday the Denmark international underwent a scan, which confirmed a serious injury. It was reported that he would have to take a break from playing (indefinitely) and be content with just watching from the side-lines:
“As a consequence of Monday’s check he’ll be out before further notice.”
