Newcastle United has been linked to a move for Roma keeper Pau Lopez. The player has recently been linked to Tottenham as well.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Magpies are making a move for Lopez in the coming months.
The 25-year-old has been doing well this season in Serie A and journalist Francesco Balzanithe Magpies like the player.
Apparently, Roma too, are under financial stress and a bid of approximately €30 m could suffice to take Lopez away from the Italian club.
However, it would be odd if this summer Newcastle did a move for Lopez. They have far more pressing concerns.
Firstly, they already have a quality goalkeeper in Dubravka.
Also, Darlow and Elliott are expected to leave Newcastle in the near future and this summer the Magpies will need to bring in a backup keeper. But again, Lopez is far too good for that role.
Moreover, Newcastle can’t really guarantee him daily first-team football with Dubravka at the club.
In addition, Lopez is doing well at Roma. He is at the stage of his career where he does not want to be an option for backups. So, it is highly doubtful that he will move to Newcastle without any guarantees of game time.
The move may thus appear extremely unlikely and may only be speculation.
