José Mourinho (60) is in a European final with AS Roma’s 2nd final in a row. The Portuguese success coach won the Conference League last year, while he can also conquer the Europa League on Wednesday. He hasn’t had enough of it yet.
Mourinho ready for another final: “This is the secret of my philosophy”
The Special One is proud of the performance of the top Italian club, he told Sky Sport Italia. “We work hard every day to build the history of Roma. Only big clubs with a big history can normally be able to reach two consecutive European finals. At the moment I don’t think about what I can win, but about the bliss we can give the fans,” the Special One revealed.
“I’ve been around football for a long time and every final is different,” Mourinho explained. This time, six-time winner Sevilla is the final hurdle to overcome for the avid prize-winner. “I don’t think much about what I’ve already won in my career. The past is the past, history is not changed. The future does, that’s why I’m looking at it now. That is the secret of my philosophy,” he continued.
Mourinho enjoys the club where he now works to the fullest: “Roma is a club in a city that lives for football. It’s about the feeling of belonging. By supporting Roma, you are part of the club. I’m not quite ready to close that chapter yet.”
Mourinho is now sixty years old, but he certainly does not think about retirement. “I’ve been working at the top for years, maybe that’s why people think I’m older than I am. Maybe they see my white hair, but I’m not old enough to even think about calling it a day. You’re a long way from getting rid of me,” the manager concluded.
Fiorentina 2-1 AS Roma
AS Roma fell against Fiorentina on the way to the Europa League final against Sevilla. La Viola turned a backlog in the final minutes on Saturday evening.
Both clubs have their sights set on the upcoming European finals: Fiorentina will play West Ham United in the Conference League (June 7) and Roma will face Sevilla in the Europa League final. That game is scheduled for next Wednesday in the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.
On the way to the final battle against Sevilla, Roma started the game well thanks to a goal from Stephane El Shaarawy, who scored after eleven minutes. Luka Jovic equalized after 85 minutes and shortly afterwards Jonathan Ikone set the final score at 2-1.
Roma is sixth after the defeat and can no longer finish in the top four in Serie A with one game to go. Giallorossi can still qualify for next season’s Champions League with a win over Sevilla. Fiorentina occupies ninth place.
