Jean-Clair Todibo joined Schalke on a loan from Barcelona in the January transfer window. And the Frenchman would be happy to stay in the German club on a permanent basis, despite there being talk of him moving away from Camp Nou this summer.
“First I want to finish the season here and secure a good position in the table,” Todibo told Bild. “And in relation to my future, the truth is that I imagine staying here. Everything is perfect. I like the stadium, how incredibly passionate the fans are, the coach [David Wagner] gives me confidence… I settled in quickly.”
While Todibo would like to remain with the Royal Blues, the club’s sports director was pragmatic about their chances of being able to pay the transfer fee. “You don’t have to be a visionary to say that the real chance of him staying has diminished with the coronavirus crisis,” said Jochen Schneider.
This obstacle has arisen because of finance, as Schalke might struggle to pay the right to purchase an amount negotiated with Barcelona for Todibo: 25 million euros plus 5 million in add-ons.
Barcelona, therefore, hopes either to sell Todibo to another club or to include him in a future swap contract.
