Quique Setien dismissed the idea that Lionel Messi might leave Barcelona on a free transfer later in 2020.
Though there are rumours that the club had been in conflicts behind the scenes, Setien played down the talk of the forward leaving the Catalan giants.
Under the terms of his deal, Messi is said to be in a position to move to a new team at the end of this season, resulting in further rumours of a possible transfer to Inter Milan.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Setien refutes them:
“He will leave Barcelona for free? No, it won’t happen. Messi and Barcelona will always be united.
“It’s just like that. Leo has been at Barca for 20 years and nobody could explain a breakdown situation.”
Messi has been in Barca since 2001, scoring a total of 627 goals from 718 appearances in the first team.
