Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, CEO of Bayern Munich, revealed his disappointment when he saw Timo Werner seem to publicly rule out a transfer to the Bundesliga giants.
The RB Leipzig player was closely tied to a move to Anfield, however Bayern was also listed as a possible destination.
Clearly, Bayern is not a club that has been too publicly rejected, and Rummenigge acknowledges being taken aback.
“Nothing really scares me anymore, but in reaction to rumours in media I have never seen a player making such a comment.” he told Bild.
This is big news also because despite Leipzig being yet to transfer any of its best talent to Bayern, the second-highest goal scorer in the Bundesliga (Haaland) has announced he is interested.
“Bayern is a wonderful team, we don’t need to think about it and Hansi Flick showed he’s a pretty successful head coach this season.” Werner told Bild. “But if a transfer were to become an issue at any stage, a move abroad would attract me more than a switch to Bayern. It’s just that another league’s competition would appeal to me a bit more than a step inside the Bundesliga.”
He continues, “Of course, it is always crucial that there is as much shared interest as possible. That’s why I chose RB Leipzig at the time, and why I would select the club as one where I can get the feeling for [the] next move.”
Nevertheless, even without Werner ’s possible presence the Bavarian giants remain well stocked in attack. Robert Lewandowski is heading the Bundesliga scoring charts with 25 goals – four more than Werner – while the team is also trying to get in Manchester City’s Leroy Sane.
