The German newspaper Bild says Chelsea is on the verge of signing RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, beating Inter, Juventus and Liverpool.
For weeks, Liverpool had been his favourites, but they seem unwilling to pay for the full release clause. Inter then emerged as a contender, but only if Lautaro Martinez moved to Barcelona. Meanwhile, Juventus fell out of the race for him because they may acquire Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli as their first choice instead.
The 24-year-old striker has a €60 m release clause in his deal, so it’s a matter of who’s able to deliver the best sporting and personal terms.
Now, Napoli has apparently allowed Chelsea to dive in with Werner’s winning proposal. Bild says Werner was able to settle on a five-year pay package worth more than €10 m a year.
The German centre-forward had scored 31 goals this season for RB Leipzig in 30 competitive games along with 12 assists.
