US Open 2023: Sergio Garcia advanced through a Final Qualifying tournament in Texas on Monday, continuing his streak of participating in every US Open this century.
Since joining the LIV Golf circuit this summer, Garcia’s world ranking has dropped, and last week’s PGA Championship marked the first time since 1999 that the Spaniard was ineligible to compete in a major.
The winner of the 2017 Masters was also not included in the initial lineup for the US Open, which will take place next month. Garcia, along with a number of other LIV contenders, participated in a one-day qualifying tournament in Dallas in an effort to qualify for one of the eight major seats available.
Garcia finished tied-fourth in the 120-player field after shooting back-to-back 66s in the 36-hole competition at Northwood Club and Bent Tree Country Club. This ensured that he would play in the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club from 15 to 18 June for the 24th time in a row.

Brent Grant finished third, Paul Haley and Canadian PGA Tour member Roger Sloan joined Garcia on nine under par, and Carson Young won by five shots over Austin Eckroat after shooting rounds of 63 and 62.
Following a second-round 70 at Bent Tree Country Club, 2010 US Open winner Graeme McDowell, a member of LIV, finished one stroke outside the qualification berths. Jacob Solomon and Hank Lebioda won a five-way play-off to claim the remaining two spots available.
The LIV member Branden Grace, Ryder Cup contender Yannik Paul, and Scottish combo Martin Laird and Russell Knox were among those that were failed to advance. PGA Tour players Ryan Moore and Ryan Palmer also fell short by one stroke.
Garcia’s qualification means that there are currently 12 LIV players who are expected to compete in the US Open. In addition to Brooks Koepka, who recently won the PGA, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, and Martin Kaymer are also past winners, along with Phil Mickelson, Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, Abraham Ancer, Thomas Pieters, Mito Pereira, and Patrick Reed.
