Umpire’s Chair: Tennis player Mikael Ymer was disqualified for hitting the chair of the umpire with a racket.
Finally, Mikael Ymer made a mark that the chair umpire could see.
The Swedish tennis player was eliminated from the Lyon Open’s Round of 16 on Wednesday after knocking his racquet off the chair umpire’s base and creating a hole in the seat.
This was a response to the umpire’s failure to examine a ball mark that Ymer believed to be out, without even indicating to Ymer where he believed the ball had crossed the line.
What a dramatic ending to a fascinating contest…

The 24-year-old contended that Richard Gasquet had asked for a mark to be verified in a similar circumstance in a match the day before, which sparked a lengthy discussion between Ymer and the umpire.
“Then, show me the mark. Show it to me,” Ymer said. “You believed it was obviously bouncing on the line? then reveal the line mark to me.
“… I’ve never heard a referee say, “I’m not going to go down and check the mark,” before. It doesn’t happen, therefore no.”
Since the ball mark is typically visible on clay courts, ball mark inspections take the place of hawk-eye reviews.
Arthur Fils, Ymer’s opponent, eventually defeated him and broke him.
After approaching the chair, Ymer continued to smash his racquet, which inevitably resulted in his disqualification.
“I’m not trying to justify the reaction in any way, but the number of people who believe a bad bounce equals a line hit is insane.” Taylor Fritz, an American, tweeted something. Crazy bounces frequently occur along the lines and throughout the court.
The 51st-ranked player in the world, Ymer, will seek atonement in the French Open the following week.
At Roland Garros, he had previously advanced as far as the third round.
