Philadelphia 76ers: Charles Bassey, a second-round pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021, was released by the team last month. Philadelphia made the choice because they needed to reduce their roster to 15 players before the season began.
Since then, the big man has had another shot thanks to a two-way deal with the San Antonio Spurs. The results of Charles Bassey’s first four games with the team are summarised here.
Bassey began the season with the NBA G League’s Austin Spurs. Bassey was given the chance to be brought up and play backup centre minutes, though, when Zach Collins, San Antonio’s backup centre, became hurt.
He has averaged 6.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.8 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game for the Spurs over the course of four games. In only 15.5 minutes a game, he has maintained those numbers.
The most outstanding performance by Bassey occurred in San Antonio’s most recent game, a 111-93 victory over the depleted Milwaukee Bucks. In just 18 minutes, Bassey recorded five points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks.
He did this to become the second player in NBA history to finish with 14 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 4 assists in under 20 minutes of action. He also made history by becoming the first player to do so from the bench.
Bassey responded to the statistic when it was later shared on the Spurs team Twitter account.
“God believed in us even though they didn’t!” Bassey penned.
For Charles Bassey in San Antonio, the sample size has undoubtedly been very small. The Sixers could have given Bassey more of a chance to succeed, but they don’t have a dependable backup big man.
