Ashes 2023: So far, the Ashes 2023 have been a pretty competitive affair, which is what cricket fans want when two great sides collide. The series is currently 2-1 in favour of Pat Cummins’ men. The fourth Test starts on July 19 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
Stuart Broad, England’s star bowler and biggest wicket-taker in the series has encouraged wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow to score big in Manchester following a poor performance in the previous two games. Bairstow scored 78 from 78 balls in the opening innings of the first Test. His greatest score since then has been 20. The burden on the 33-year-old has also increased since his wicketkeeping form has been mediocre.
Broad stated something he and Bairstow shared in common. When their backs are up against the wall, they both shine. In the similar vein, the veteran bowler predicted that Bairstow will overcome his difficulties and return to form in Manchester.
“We all know Jonny Bairstow well enough to say with confidence that he performs best under pressure. In that regard, he and I are very similar. That’s why I have a feeling he’ll deliver this week. He’ll feel he has something to prove — not to any of us in the dressing room, but to the rest of the world,” Broad wrote in his Daily Mail column.
In a high-pressure game, I expect a great performance from him [James Anderson]: Stuart Broad
James Anderson, the legendary England bowler, played the first two matches of the present Ashes 2023 and took just three wickets in 77 overs. He was omitted from the squad for the third Test. Broad claimed the 40-year-old was unlucky with his groyne injury and the pitches available to him. However, the in-form Broad predicted a strong effort from his fellow pacer in a high-pressure game.
“I know, by his own admission, Jimmy Anderson didn’t have the best games at Edgbaston and Lord’s, but I honestly believe he was unlucky — both with the timing of his groyne injury with Lancashire, which disrupted his Ashes preparation, and with the pitches. He’s bowled who knows how many overs at Old Trafford, and I’m expecting a huge effort from him in a high-pressure game,” Broad said.
