Ashes 2023: The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has restricted their movement within the pavilion in the latest development in the spat between Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) members and Australian players during the Lord’s Ashes Test. Furthermore, they have taken a few further steps to enhance the spacing between members and gamers by employing larger ropes. Furthermore, members will no longer be permitted to move around the steps when players enter and exit the field.
Notably, Australian players Usman Khawaja and David Warner got into a violent argument while facing cheers and whistles from the MCC’s top members. Meanwhile, the crowd has been pretty controlled thus far in the continuing Headingley Test. It has also been revealed that several members took photographs with the players before to the commencement of the third Ashes Test at Leeds. However, on Thursday, July 6, MCC chairman Bruce Carnegie-Brown criticised this behaviour in an email to concerned members.
In addition, Carnegie-Brown stepped forward to express his thoughts on the entire incident. The chairman wrote in his statement that the MCC members who were involved in insulting the Australian players had brought dishonour to the prestigious club. He further mentioned that several members went on to share footage of the incident, revealing the unsettling amount of vitriol directed at the visiting players.
“The video footage captured on Sunday (including some taken in clear violation of our regulations) is there for all to see,” Carnegie-Brown said in an email to the West Australian, according to the newspaper.
“The members shown on camera have brought MCC to its knees. Their actions stymie our efforts to publicise the positive things our club does to promote and celebrate the game,” he said.
The new set of regulations will govern the Women’s Ashes T20 match.
Concerning the urgent inquiry and steps taken thus far in the situation, the MCC had previously suspended three members for their reckless attitude. In his message, the chairman further stated that as the investigations continue, more harsh measures would be applied. The new regulations will be in effect beginning with Saturday night’s T20I game between England and Australia in the Women’s Ashes.
The new regulations will be used for Australia’s women’s T20 match against England on Saturday night.
