Ashes The long-awaited Ashes 2023 are ready to begin on Friday, June 16, when England and Australia face off in the first Test of the five-match series. The series is likely to be exciting, with England’s ‘Bazball’ style pitted against Australia’s strong bowling assault.
England captain Ben Stokes said before of the series that he had urged curators to build flat-fast surfaces for the five-match series. Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, on the other hand, believes that if England goes forward with their strategy, they would struggle to grab 20 wickets in the game. Ponting went on to say that England’s hitters will bat well but struggle with the ball.
“If England wants to play the style they’ve been playing, I believe they’ll need some flattish-type wickets.” I’ve heard they want flat wickets and the borders to be brought in. “But I’m worried about how they’re going to get 20 Australian wickets a game if they have these flatter wickets,” Ponting was reported as saying by the Times.
“Some of our top-order batters’ records aren’t as good in the UK, but our bowling numbers are all pretty good. I believe England will bat quite well. I think they’re going to struggle with the ball, and if you look at Australia’s attack, I think Australia’s bowling probably has fewer holes in it right now than the batting,” he said.
Australia will break the 22-year wait for Ashes victory in England?
Australia has not won the Ashes series in England since 2001. They have, however, enjoyed an advantage against England in the previous three series because they have held the Ashes since 2017. They drew the series in England last time, 2-2, and will be hungry to snap their 22-year Ashes victory streak in the forthcoming series.
England, on the other side, has been in fantastic form since last year, winning 11 of their 13 Tests since Ben Stokes became full-time captain. As a result, both sides are likely to provide fans with another exciting series.
