Ultimate Test: Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan believes the Three Lions will triumph over Pat Cummins’ Australia in the next Ashes series, which begins on Friday, June 16. He also claimed that facing an invigorated squad like England will be difficult for Australia.
The Three Lions have chosen an aggressive style in the longest format, dubbed ‘Bazball,’ under the new administration of head coach Brendon McCullum and the leadership of Ben Stokes, which appears to have paid dividends as they have won 12 of their 17 encounters. Vaughan believes that the Australians would struggle to play against the home team in the next series due to their aggressive style.
“They’re an energised team that’s very difficult to play against.” They play with complete abandon. They’re Ferraris… Their cars don’t have brakes,” Vaughan said to Fox Cricket.
Michael Vaughan is concerned about bowling.
With the likes of James Anderson, Ollie Robinson, and Mark Wood suffering injuries ahead of the crucial series, Vaughan believes the hosts may be vulnerable since the aforementioned bowlers have not had much experience with the ball recently.
“I am concerned about the bowlers because we all know that with the batting, you can be as relaxed as you want in terms of your mental approach, you can be fresh to play, and sometimes being fresh is the best kind of mindset. But, when it comes to bowling, not having the overs in the legs and not having time in the centre of the field is a major problem”, he continued.
“(James) Anderson hasn’t bowled in weeks, Ollie Robinson hasn’t bowled in weeks, Ben Stokes hasn’t bowled in months, (Mark) Wood hasn’t bowled in months, Moeen Ali (returned from retirement) hasn’t bowled in years, and that’s England’s bowling attack. Test cricket is hard on the body, so I’m interested to see how they go,” Vaughan said.
