ODI: The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be held in India, is only four months away. The ICC (International Cricket Council) or the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has yet to reveal the tournament’s full schedule. The competition is scheduled to begin on October 5, however the actual dates and teams’ schedules have yet to be revealed.
During the World Test Championship final in 2023, the BCCI has already provided a draught schedule with the ICC. According to rumours, the delay in formally issuing the schedule is due to Pakistan’s unwillingness to play India on October 15 in Ahmedabad.
According to the BCCI’s draught schedule, India and Pakistan will face off in the tournament’s most anticipated game on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. According to a report in the ‘The Telegraph’ newspaper, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not yet authorised Ahmedabad, citing security concerns.
“Because the tour is subject to government approval, the PCB has forwarded the documents to the relevant ministry, which is investigating. Given the sensitivity of the matter, a decision will be made depending on what the government says,” a source told ‘The Telegraph’ newspaper.
“The PCB was given a time frame to study the draught schedule and is adhering to it before providing its consent.” Cricketing topics pertaining to the World Cup will be evaluated by the Pakistan Board, while security and other issues will be handled by the government and other authorities involved,” the source added.
During ICC chairman Greg Barclay and CEO Geoff Allardice’s visit to Lahore last month, the PCB allegedly discussed the problem. The World Cup schedule was due to be published before the WTC Final, but the PCB objected until the BCCI accepted to their’hybrid concept’ for the Asia Cup 2023.
The Asia Cup has been approved under PCB’s suggested ‘Hybrid’ Model.
Meanwhile, the official calendar for the Asia Cup 2023 has been released, with Pakistan and Sri Lanka hosting the competition. The matches for the ‘Men-in-Blue’ will take place in Sri Lanka. The event will begin on August 31, with Pakistan hosting four matches in Lahore and Sri Lanka hosting nine.
