MLC 2023: MI After announcing a dangerous bowling unit for the event, New York has brought prominence to the upcoming inaugural season of Major League Cricket. Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada will lead the bowling attack, with world-class spinner Rashid Khan also included in the star-studded side.
The first MLC season, which is set to begin on July 13, will include six teams. The much-anticipated competition will take place in Dallas for three weeks and will include some of the greatest names in T20 cricket.
MI New York, which is owned by Indiawin Sports Private Limited, the parent company of the five-time IPL winner Mumbai Indians, has unveiled their star-studded lineup ahead of the season. Kieron Pollard, a veteran West Indies all-rounder, will captain the side in its debut edition, with Nicholas Pooran, Tim David, Dewald Brevis, and Jason Behrendorff.
“It’s an incredible combination of youth, experience, and power. Furthermore, we have promising potential in Tim David and Brevis, as well as established performers in Jason Behrendorff and David Wiese. “When combined with the exceptional skills of our local US players, we are confident that MI New York will raise the bar of competition in the US cricket ecosystem,” said Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani in a statement.
Robin Peterson and Lasith Malinga have been added to the coaching staff.
Pollard, who just joined the coaching staff of the Mumbai Indians, also led MI Emirates, one of Mumbai’s sister franchises, in the first edition of the ILT20. Meanwhile, Afghan superstar Rashid Khan and Proteas fast bowling phenom Kagiso Rabada will play for MI New York after previously representing MI Cape Town in the inaugural SA20 tournament earlier this year.
In terms of coaching, former South African all-rounder Robin Peterson has been selected head coach of the newly formed side. Meanwhile, former Mumbai Indians pacer and bowling legend Lasith Malinga will serve as bowling coach. Batting and fielding coaches will be J Arunkumar and James Pamment, respectively.
