Boxing News: In preparation for their bout for the WBO interim heavyweight championship on Saturday in Manchester, Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker both topped the scales at their heaviest weights to date.
Parker gained four pounds, weighing in at 255.4 pounds, while Joyce added six pounds to his weight since their last bout, coming in at 271.6 pounds.
The winner will receive a WBO obligatory shot at undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk. Following a heated exchange on the stage, less than 24 hours before the fight’s scheduled start time, the competitors exchanged barbs.
Despite being a former world champion, Parker, 30, is the underdog, but the New Zealander, who has trained with Tyson Fury, claimed he is confident in his ability to defeat Joyce.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the weigh-in, Parker said: “That’s where I wanted to be, coming in a bit heavier with more power, that’s what we wanted for my weight.
“I just said to him (Joyce) that I hope he is ready for the fight and I hope that he gets knocked out. He is a nice guy and I look forward to tomorrow’s fight.
On Saturday’s undercard, featherweight champion Amanda Serrano and IBF champion Sarah Mahfoud will square off.
Mahfoud weighed 124.9 pounds, while Serrano measured 124.7 pounds.
