Cricket News: Former India captain Virat Kohli has improved significantly in the limited-overs format but has yet to produce in Test cricket. The 34-year-old would like to turn the clock back and play a similar kind of performance against Bangladesh in the forthcoming two-match Test series. His last century in the longest format came in 2019 against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens.
In advance of the series, acting captain KL Rahul defended Kohli, arguing that as the Indian side hasn’t played much Test cricket this year, it’s impossible to evaluate Kohli’s performances. The 30-year-old defended his former captain, saying that Kohli’s outlook never changes.
“I don’t think we’ve played enough Test cricket for you to pass that judgement, frankly. He’s been in great shape and performed admirably for us in T20 cricket. He recently defeated Bangladesh here and scored a hundred. In the press conference, Rahul stated that it is certain that he will carry some confidence into the Test matches as well.
He has been here so long. He is such an accomplished player, and he is aware of what to do. He’s always had the same manner of thinking and being. He has demonstrated his love for the sport and his dedication to the squad in front of everyone. He is a superb athlete. He has always found a way to score runs, and I have no doubt that he will do it once more.
We hope Rohit will be able to return for the second Test: KL Rahul
The series’ opening Test has been postponed due to an injury to designated skipper Rohit Sharma, who sustained the injury to his left thumb during India’s second ODI match against Bangladesh. The starter has been replaced in the interim by Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran. Rahul emphasised Rohit’s significance and expressed his hope that he would return for the second Test in Dhaka.
Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly a key player for us. He is the captain and has a lot of experience. The team will really miss having a captain out with an injury. We’re crossing our fingers that he can return for the second Test, added Rahul.
