Alphonso Davies’ dream has finally come true. The Bayern Munich defender changed his shirt with that of Lionel Messi after the match with Paris Saint-Germain, something he failed to do three years ago.
Three years earlier, Davies was in the quarter-finals of the Champions League with Bayern Munich. The later winner of the tournament made mincemeat of Barcelona and won 8-2 against the Spaniards. Afterwards, Davies took the plunge and asked Messi for his shirt. However, he soon had to take off those shoes in disillusionment.
Davies later revealed that Messi declined his request, “I think he was a little upset. It’s okay, hopefully better next time.” Since then, Davies and Messi had not been on one field, but on Tuesday evening it was finally time after more than nine hundred days. Despite the fact that Messi once again left the field as the loser, he now gave up his shirt.
The 22-year-old Canadian was a big fan of Messi as a little boy. “It’s unbelievable that I can play in the Champions League against one of my favorite players in the world,” Davies told UEFA at the time. “My parents both called me when I announced that I would play against Messi. My father couldn’t believe it because he knew how much I looked up to Messi.”
Matthijs de Ligt’s love for Juventus
Speaking of Bayern defenders, Matthijs de Ligt certainly does not regret his switch, but he still has a warm heart for Juventus.
After his strong performance in the round of 16 of the Champions League. Against Paris Saint-Germain, De Ligt (23) was asked by Sky Sport about his transfer last summer. “I feel good here, both physically and in terms of tactics. This game suits me more,” De Ligt answered.
“I always follow them, for me they are a great club,” the defender said positively about his former employer. “Things have been said that are not true, I understand the fans, but I have never spoken badly of Juventus.”
“I have a lot of love for the colors of Juventus and their fans, even in this difficult phase, the fans always go to the stadium. I hope that Juventus will win many more games and that they can do well, both in the league and in the Europa League,” he added.
