Among other Catalan club news in football live today, Barcelona can register just two new signings before La Liga starts.
There are four new inbound transfers in all, but Barcelona will most likely have additional time to register some later. They can play two of their new signings without registering them even as the La Liga season commences.
The Blaugrana are still in mourning over the loss of Lionel Messi. Their best football player of all time and now-former captain announced last week he would not be returning to Barcelona.
To make matters worse, they have had to declare their new signing Sergio Aguero as out for 10 weeks today. Aguero will remain absent due to a tendon injury, according to RAC1, but there may be other reasons too.
Barcelona will experience the loss of Aguero for 10 weeks, at least, most acutely. After all, they now lack depth along the front line.
Barcelona Can Register Just Two New Signings before La Liga Starts
However, there is a silver lining to Aguero’s injury because it gives Barcelona more time to register their new signing.
Due to the club’s dire financial situation, Barcelona have registered none of their four new signings with La Liga yet.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has expressed optimism about registering all of those players, though, in the aftermath of Messi’s departure.
However, these four players are still all unregistered. And Barcelona will need to register them by Friday in order to include them in their La Liga roster.
Only then can they play in the first match of the season, against Real Sociedad at Camp Nou on Sunday.
Until the end of August, the deadlines for each matchday will follow a similar pattern.
Also, September 1 will be the final date for new registrations until January.
Barcelona’s ultimate deadline has passed, but Aguero’s injury and the late arrival of Eric Garcia will aid their registration crisis.
If Barcelona can make financial room, they can register the other two signings – Memphis Depay and Emerson Royal – before Friday.
After all, the Blaugrana head coach Ronald Koeman will likely want to use both these players during the opening weekend.
Meanwhile, they can then take as much time as they need until the final deadline to register and include Aguero. He will be out for 10 weeks anyway.
In the case of Garcia, finally, Barcelona will almost certainly have an extra week.
