According to Barcelona’s club statement issued this morning, forward Martin Braithwaite has suffered a patellofemoral injury to his left knee. This injury will necessitate surgery and that means that Braithwaite may miss their Champions League home opener against Bayern Munich. Even as they prepare to host Bayern at Camp Nou (football news), today, Barcelona confirm that Braithwaite will need surgery.
Barcelona is in for a difficult season. Still, they began the season by defeating Real Sociedad 4-2 before drawing 1-1 with Athletic Bilbao and defeating Getafe 2-1.
But their troubles linger because Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann both left Barcelona this summer, leaving their squad significantly sparse.
With Messi and Griezmann gone, they are now heavily reliant on their younger players to step up. These inexperienced youngsters must help the club compete in La Liga and in the Champions League.
Furthermore, Sergio Aguero, Ousmane Dembele, and Ansu Fati are all currently out on injury and thus unavailable for the club.
And now, Barcelona’s lack of operatives in the final third is about to be exacerbated by Martin Braithwaite’s absence, too.
Barcelona Confirm That Braithwaite Will Need Surgery
Danish footballer Martin Braithwaite had tried conservative treatment on his bad knee, but it’s now clear that he requires intervention.
So, Braithwaite will possibly undergo surgery to cure the patellofemoral injury to his left knee, as Barcelona have just confirmed. After the operation, they further reveal, he’ll have a better idea of how long he’ll be out.
Braithwaite has played 226 minutes in La Liga so far this season, contributing directly to three goals.
