Chelsea allegedly made an offer to sign Napoli to Belgium Striker Dries Mertens, who will be without a contract with the Italian outfit in the summer.
Mertens continued to play in Napoli after the January transfer window, despite The Blues being credited with an interest in Belgium International at the time. He scored six goals and five assists in the 21 league outings of that term. Further, the 32-year-old has scored 121 goals in 309 games in all of Napoli’s competitions.
Frank Lampard’s side, however, allegedly did not give up in their search of Mertens. As such, they could face pressure from Inter Milan to secure the services of the striker.
Speaking to AreaNapoli, RAI journalist Paolo Paganini said, “Will Mertens leave? If he left, Napoli might take a double shot (sign two players, instead of the one they’re supposed to do).” According to Paganini, Inter and Chelsea have re-launched their attempts to sign the Belgian, offering him a higher salary.
Very soon, we might see Mertens collaborating with Chelsea and leaving Napoli.
