According to Inter head coach Antonio Conte, following Inter’s draw on Wednesday, finishing runners-up in Serie A is “meaningless.”
“Second place is meaningless in my eyes, it’s just first for losers,” Conte told Sky Sport Italia post-game.
Conte’s stuttering Inter created a toothless display by visiting Fiorentina at San Siro on Wednesday as they were kept on a 0-0 draw.
Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez both hit the woodwork for Inter, who missed a chance to climb into second place over Atalanta with three matches remaining.
Inter is one point of high-flying Atalanta’s adrift and seven behind Juventus leaders as the reigning champions close in on a ninth consecutive Scudetto.
Conte said the second position in the table was “just first for losers” after the Nerazzurri fell in Serie A behind Atalanta:
“Some settle for that, but not me. I don’t want my players to settle for that either.”
