Italy’s national football team is the first finalist of this year’s Euro 2020, after beating Spain 2-1 (1-1). So, for Tuesday’s London’s Wembley Stadium Euro 2020 semi-final football match score, Italy win 4-2 with a better penalty shootout.
Italy thus knocked out Spain in the second European Championship in a row. After all, back in 2016 in the Euros, the “Azzuri” eliminated the “fury” in the last-8 round.
Now, the Italians will play their fourth final at the European Championships. They’ll be up against the better of the semi-final between England and Denmark, which is today, at 9pm, at Wembley.
Italy have won their only European title as the host in 1968. After that, the Italians lost in the finals in 2000 to France and in 2008 to Spain.
With Italy again in the finals, the finale will go down at the same Wembley stadium on Sunday, June 11th.
Euro 2020 Semi-final Football Match Score: Italy Win 4-2 on Penalties
The first semis goal, which gave Italy the initial lead, was thanks to Federico Chiesa’s effort in the 60th minute.
However, Alvaro Morata equalized for Spain, with an assist by Dani Olmo, in the 80th minute.
Therefore, after 90 minutes, the score was on a tie of 1-1.
The two teams then played two overtimes for 15+15 minutes, that is, for half an hour. But no goals from either side emerged in this long extension.
Then, in the penalty round, Spain’s goalkeeper Unai Simon defended Locatelli’s shot in the first set of penalties. Correspondingly, Dani Olmo switched the goal.
In the second series, Belotti gave Italy the advantage, but, for Spain’s response, Moreno equalized.
Bonucci then struck in Italy’s third set and gave them new lead, and Thiago Alcantara also scored, making it 2-2.
In the fourth set, while Bernardeschi scored for the Italian’s 3-2 lead, Italy goalkeeper Donnarumma saved Morata’s shot.
Then, finally, in the fifth set, Jorginho’s successful penalty strike brought the Italians victory.
