Among other football news, Europa Conference League’s first round kicks off, with one match each from Groups A and E. The first two matches of the Conference League groups, a new UEFA competition, thus played yesterday. Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Alashkert 4-1 (Group A), whereas, in Group E, Maccabi Haifa and Feyenoord played a scoreless draw.
For this round one night in the Europa Conference League, in close-up was the Croatian football player Stipe Perica.
Namely, this 26-year-old former young member of the Croatian national team scored the first, historic goal in the entire competition.
After all, he scored within Group A of the Conference League, which is playing for the first time this season.
Perica arrived at Maccabi Tel Aviv just this season, from Watford.
And he helped them beat Alashkert from Armenia 4-1 at home in Tel Aviv. Perica thus paved the way for his team to three points with a goal in the 13th minute.
The three other scorers for Maccabi were Kanichowsky, Biton and Hozez, and Embalo scored the singular goal for the guests.
In the second match played, in Group E, Maccabi Haifa and Feyenoord drew without goals.
The Conference League have scheduled all other matches of the 1st round for Thursday.
As a result, HJK Helsinki and LASK from Linz will also play in this Group A on Thursday, i.e. tomorrow.
At the same time, from Group B, Slavia Prague and Union Berlin will play each other in the first round of Thursday too.
