After his performance against Villarreal, Frenkie de Jong’s masterclass is given high praise. The midfielder for Barcelona reportedly delivered a “masterful performance.” Xavi has previously praised De Jong’s performance.
Frenkie de Jong’s masterclass recieved 8/10 from SPORT
De Jong receives an eight from Sport, which puts him on par with Jordi Alba and Robert Lewandowski for the highest score. From the middle of the field, he performed a complete scans of both teams and directed play both with and without the ball. He avoided undertaking quests meant for players who played a more offensive role. He made excellent decisions, applied pressure, won the ball, and filled the open spaces. In other words, he provided a master class on how to play an important position.
Mundo Deportivo uses one word to sum up each player’s performance, referring to De Jong as “excellent.” Since his arrival, the centre of the midfield has seldom ever been used. He played there. It’s difficult to foresee the Dutchman giving such a strong performance. He consistently won the ball back, exerted a lot of effort, and used his constant sprints to split Villarreal’s defence in half. He received a standing ovation as he departed the field, and not by accident.
De Jong, as usual, dribbled effortlessly past his opponents, made lovely through passes, and energised the game for the home squad. De Jong made a number of contributions with a pass rate of 95%, eight balls won, and 10 duels won (out of ten). None of the La Liga players had won all ten of their personal duels this season after winning 100 percent of them in one game.
The club’s manager had the following to say about De Jong: ” He played very well. With the football in his feet, he was the liberated guy who had to choose sides. He separated and played a pretty thorough game, which he also quite liked. Salute him; he merits it.”
