Giorgio Chiellini is in football news again, after supporting the Super league yesterday, but this time with his Italy squad. In an effort to spread hope and cheer there, Italy’s team visited a children’s hospital with their Euro 2020 trophy.
The Italy team paid a visit to a children’s hospital in Rome today, as they confirmed on social media pages. What’s more, they even brought the UEFA Euro 2020 trophy, that they won in the summer, in July, with them.
Italy’s Team Visited a Children’s Hospital with Their Euro 2020 Trophy
The Azzurri paid a visit to the patients and employees at the Bambino Gesù children’s hospital, which is in Rome.
The team arrived in the capital ahead of a crucial 2022 World Cup qualifier. They will be facing off against Switzerland on Friday at 19.45 GMT at the Stadio Olimpico.
And coming to Rome, Italy’s national team took with them a very special summer memento: the UEFA Euro 2020 trophy.
Italy’s players lifted this prize at Wembley Stadium after defeating England in the Euros final to win the European Championship.
The children at the hospital, on the other hand, made a banner to wish the Nazionale well for their match.
In fact, Italy will use the game against Switzerland to generate donations for the hospital.
Also, 200 hospital personnel will attend the game live at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday evening as special guests.
A petition to increase the Stadio Olimpico’s capacity to 100% was denied, therefore COVID limits will stay in place. So, the stadium will be at 75% capacity in terms of audience attendance.
This implies that, impressively, over 52,000 spectators will still be in attendance for the crucial encounter between Italy and Switzerland.
