Following a crash between two teammates Thursday night, Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina left the pitch on a stretcher with blood running down his face. This was in a match which Atalanta later won over Napoli.
The incident came in the twenty-fifth minute as the ball was whipped in by Alejandro Dario Gomez and Ospina put out a strong hand.
Mario Rui and Atalanta’s Mattia Caldara rushed in, attempting to catch the ball, and both couldn’t help but hit the goalkeeper.
After sending the ball high from an Atalanta set piece, the Napoli goalkeeper, formerly from Arsenal, collided into colleague Rui and Caldara.
As a consequence, he was left with a deep cut and blood was shown on the broadcast before being bandaged and rolled out. He was substituted by Alex Meret.
As the game went on, ex-Chelsea player Mario Pasalic at the start of the second half brought Atalanta away.
Robin Gosens doubled the advantage from home side and they saw the game out for a 2-0 win.
Atalanta sit fourth in Serie A and Napoli remain sixth.
